Project “Neighbours” 2022-2024

PROJECT “NEIGHBORS” – SYNAGOGUE OPEN ITS DOORS

The EU is committed to combating all forms of hatred and recently launched an action plan to combat racism and its first strategy to combat anti-Semitism and promote Jewish life. Legislation is essential to achieving positive and lasting social change, but it can never replace grassroots initiatives that bring people and communities together.

This is where Project Neighbors comes to the rescue.

WHAT ARE NEIGHBORS?

The Neighbors Project aims to promote dialogue and understanding between people and communities of different faiths. At a time when many synagogues are putting up walls around themselves due to security threats – literal or figurative – Neighbors is calling on Jewish communities to open their doors.

The project is divided into two parts:

· Strengthen young people’s resilience to anti-Semitic ideas, conspiracy myths and other forms of hate online and offline by inviting them to synagogue. Formation of local interfaith coalitions against all forms of intolerance and hatred.

· Intercultural interaction, personal contacts and an enlightened educational environment are key to combating prejudice and promoting respect for diversity. We firmly believe that schools and other youth services have an important role to play in creating such environments and empowering young people to take action against hate.

We would like to invite you to work with us on this challenge.
